Kedarnath, one of the Panch Kedar and the northernmost Jyotirlinga, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple rises near the source of the sacred Mandakini River.
Badrinath venerates Lord Vishnu. Set beside the swift Alaknanda, it is said that Vishnu meditated here while his consort Lakshmi stood guard as a berry—or Badri—tree, providing him shelter.
