Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva
Set amidst the towering Garhwal Himalayas, Kedarnath is one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage destinations. Perched at an elevation of 3,580 meters, this ancient town is built around the iconic Kedarnath Temple, near the Chorabari Glacier, the origin of the holy Mandakini River.
The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a masterpiece of early stone architecture, constructed from massive, uniformly cut grey stone blocks. Inside the sanctum, a naturally formed conical rock is venerated as Shiva in his Sadashiva form. Kedarnath is not only part of the revered Char Dham Yatra but also one of the 12 Jyotirlingas—the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva across India.
Towering behind the temple are the majestic Kedarnath Peak, Kedar Dome, and other snow-capped Himalayan giants, creating a breathtaking backdrop that enhances the town’s spiritual aura.

The ancient Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, stands at 3,580 meters amidst snow-capped peaks. Made of massive stone slabs, it's one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a key Char Dham shrine. Pilgrims trek to this sacred spot, seeking spiritual peace in its divine atmosphere and stunning Himalayan backdrop.

Located about 500 meters uphill from Kedarnath Temple, Bhairavnath Temple is dedicated to Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Shiva. Locals believe he protects the Kedarnath valley during harsh winters when the main shrine is inaccessible. The temple offers panoramic views of the Kedarnath region, making it a spiritual and scenic stop.

Located approximately 8 km from Kedarnath, Vasuki Tal is a high-altitude glacial lake nestled at about 4,150 meters. It is surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and offers a breathtaking view of the Chaukhamba range. The challenging trek to the lake rewards visitors with peace, solitude, and stunning natural beauty.

Adjacent to the Kedarnath Temple is the sacred Samadhi (memorial) of Adi Shankaracharya, the great 8th-century philosopher who is believed to have revived the shrine. This spiritual site marks the final resting place of the sage, who played a key role in unifying and organizing Hindu worship across India.
